我只想促使大眾認清一件事實──藝術是苦痛以外的唯一導師。──蕭伯納. 世界著名的美學家赫伯特‧里德的名著《透過藝術的教育》是一本非常有價值的重要著作,值得國內美術教育界參考。在21世紀,教育改革的呼聲不斷,人文藝術教育更顯重要。里德在本書中提出的「藝術應為教育的基礎」觀念,主張教育過程與藝術創造過程融合一致的構想,舉出美育的教學方法,如何達成民主社會的教育目標,兒童藝術表現能力與審美心理的發展描述等等,都有深入探尋。因而使此書具有全方位的透視性遠見、豐富的知識性、濃厚的趣味性與可讀性。從兒童美術教育的觀點而論,《透過藝術的教育》一書中,最精采而值得深入研讀的是第五章兒童的藝術。從兒童的自由表現、兒童畫發展階段,談到表現的目的。提出了美術教育,就是涵括造形教育和視覺教育,觸覺(造形教育)、聽覺(音樂教育)與觀察力(視覺教育)的培養,對兒童能力發展非常重要。書中也論述兒童藝術、原始藝術與未開化民族之間的關連性與教育問題的探討。兒童畫發展階段的分析,使我們對兒童的心靈與繪畫,有了清楚的認識,對教師從事藝術教學指引出正確的途徑。 -- from back cover |
